R32 Ready Split

R32 Ready Split units are modern wall mounted air-conditioners set up for newer refrigerant handling requirements and practical day to day cooling. Aircon Warehouse supplies and installs these units in Mbombela, the Lowveld and North West, with trade pricing and support from first quote to final commissioning.

What an R32 Ready Split unit is

An R32 Ready Split is a fixed split air-conditioner made for cleaner refrigerant practice, lower running impact and easier servicing when handled by a properly trained installer. It uses a matched indoor and outdoor unit, joined by refrigerant pipework and electrical cabling, with the indoor unit usually fitted high on the wall for even air distribution.

For many homes and small offices, this type of unit is a practical choice because it cools the room you need, not the whole building. That makes it easier to manage power use during load-shedding changes and high summer demand. In the Lowveld, where heat and humidity can build up quickly, the right sized split unit can make a clear difference to comfort.

Aircon Warehouse keeps stock for common room sizes and can advise on the best option based on the space, sun load, ceiling height and how many people use the room. We work from Mbombela and supply into White River, Hazyview, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom and Rustenburg.

Sizes and options to match the room

Split units are usually chosen by room size, insulation and heat gain from glass, roof exposure and equipment. A small bedroom will not need the same capacity as a boardroom, salon or open plan living area. Getting the size right matters more than simply buying the biggest unit on the shelf.

  • 9 000 BTU for small bedrooms, studies and compact offices
  • 12 000 BTU for average bedrooms and smaller living areas
  • 18 000 BTU for larger rooms, lounges and medium offices
  • 24 000 BTU for open areas, shops and hotter west facing spaces
  • Wall mounted split units for standard rooms
  • Cassette options available where ceiling mounting is more suitable

We also supply portable units where fixed installation is not possible, but a split unit is usually the better long term option if the room is used daily. If you are replacing an older unit, we can check the existing piping, drain route and electrical supply before you place the order, so there are no surprises on site.

Where this unit suits best

R32 Ready Split units suit bedrooms, home offices, consulting rooms, reception areas, small retail spaces and staff rooms. They are also commonly used in holiday homes and rental units where a neat wall mounted finish is preferred. If the room gets direct afternoon sun or has a metal roof, we factor that in during the site assessment because it affects capacity and running cost.

For coastal and inland areas alike, a split unit is helpful where windows stay closed for security or dust control. In places like Rustenburg and Klerksdorp, where summer heat can be punishing, or Mbombela where humidity is part of the story, the right indoor temperature can improve comfort through the whole day. It also helps protect equipment, stock and electronics from heat stress.

  • Suitable for homes and light commercial spaces
  • Best for rooms that are used often
  • Works well where quiet operation matters
  • Can be fitted in new builds or replacement jobs
  • Good choice for areas with high heat and humidity

Installation, power and gas requirements

Installation should be done by a competent team that understands pipe sizing, vacuuming, pressure testing and correct commissioning. An R32 Ready Split unit must be installed with care because poor pipework or a weak electrical feed can lead to gas loss, poor cooling or early compressor trouble. That is why we include site assessments before new installs where needed.

Most split units need a dedicated electrical supply, isolator and correct protection at the board. The exact current draw depends on the size of the unit, starting load and whether the model is inverter or fixed speed. For many homes, the electrician should confirm cable size, breaker rating and where the outdoor unit can sit with enough clearance for airflow and maintenance access.

R32 refrigerant handling also means installers need to follow the right service process. The system must be checked for tight joints, evacuated properly and charged to the correct amount. If a unit is undercharged or overcharged, performance drops and the compressor works harder, which can shorten its life.

  • Dedicated power supply may be required
  • Outdoor unit needs good airflow and service clearance
  • Drain route must fall away properly to prevent leaks
  • Pipe runs should be kept within the approved length
  • Gas charge must be set by a qualified installer

Care, servicing and ongoing performance

Regular care keeps the unit cooling properly and helps avoid breakdowns in peak heat. Filters should be cleaned often, especially in dusty towns or where doors are opened and closed all day. The outdoor unit also needs space around it, not plants, packing material or wall clutter pressed up against the coil.

We recommend scheduled servicing, deep cleaning and fault finding when the unit starts showing weak cooling, water dripping inside, strange smells or higher power use. A dirty coil or blocked drain can cause all sorts of trouble and it is usually cheaper to sort it early. If the unit is in a kitchen, salon or workshop, service intervals may need to be shorter.

Our service team can help with gas top-ups when there is an actual leak or low charge issue, but a top-up should not be treated as a fix on its own. The fault has to be found and repaired first, otherwise the gas will just escape again. That is normal good practice, even if some people try to skip it.

What to check before you order

Before ordering, check the room size in metres, the number of people using the space, the amount of sun on the walls and windows, and whether the unit must cool during the hottest part of the day. It also helps to know if the room has existing pipework, a drain point and an electrical feed that can be used again.

If you are fitting into a business premises, check municipal or landlord rules for mounting points, visible pipe routes and condensate drain discharge. In some buildings the outside unit position has to be approved before work starts. Getting that signed off first can save a delay later on site.

  • Room size and ceiling height
  • Number of occupants and heat sources
  • Existing electrical supply and breaker capacity
  • Whether old piping can be reused
  • Wall or roof space for the outdoor unit
  • Need for installation, replacement or just supply

Aircon Warehouse supplies from Mbombela and covers White River, Hazyview, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom and Rustenburg. If you need the unit supplied only or supplied and fitted, our team can quote on the same basis so you know what is included.

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Can an R32 Ready Split replace an older split unit?

Yes, in many cases it can replace an older unit, but the piping, drain route and electrical supply should be checked first. If the existing setup is not suitable, we will advise on the right replacement method.

How do I know what size to order?

Start with room size, ceiling height, sun exposure and how the room is used. A site assessment is the safest way to avoid under sizing or buying a unit that is too large for the space.

Do you install in Klerksdorp and Rustenburg?

Yes. We are based in Mbombela and cover the Lowveld and North West, including Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom and Rustenburg for selected installations and support.
