Washable Filter Set

A washable filter set is a simple part, but it makes a big difference to airflow, dust control and day to day hygiene. We supply replacement filter sets for routine upkeep on wall splits, cassettes and portable units across Mbombela, the Lowveld and North West.

What a washable filter set does in an aircon unit

The filter sits on the air intake side of the indoor unit and catches dust, lint, pollen, pet hair and fine debris before it reaches the coil. That keeps the indoor fan moving air properly and helps the unit cool or heat without strain. In places like Mbombela, White River, Hazyview, Klerksdorp and Rustenburg, where windows are often open and dust levels can be high, a clean filter matters more than most people think.

Washable filter sets are made for routine maintenance. Instead of throwing the filter away every few weeks, you remove it, wash it, dry it and refit it. That lowers running resistance and helps with indoor air quality. It is not a cure for every aircon fault, but it is one of the first things to check when an unit feels weak or starts taking longer to reach set temperature.

  • Helps maintain steady airflow
  • Supports cleaner indoor air
  • Reduces strain on the indoor fan
  • Useful for homes, offices, shops and light industrial spaces

Sizes and fit options for wall splits, cassettes and portables

Filter sets are not one size fits all. The frame, clip points and mesh area must match the indoor unit model and the cabinet opening. We supply replacement washable filters for common wall split sizes, ceiling cassette filter sections and portable unit screens. If the filter is too small, air bypasses the mesh. If it is too large, it will not seat properly and can rattle or distort when the unit runs.

For wall splits, the filter usually sits behind the front panel and is removed from the top or front edge. Cassette units use larger filter sections that sit in the return air grille. Portable units normally use a rear intake screen or panel filter that slides out for cleaning. When ordering, the safest route is to match the model number, the frame measurements and the number of filter pieces required.

  • Wall split filter sets for domestic and light commercial units
  • Cassette filter sections for ceiling mounted indoor units
  • Portable unit intake screens and washable inserts
  • Replacement clips or frames where the original set is damaged

Where washable filters suit local conditions best

These filters suit properties that pick up dust quickly or have regular occupancy changes. That includes bedrooms, rental homes, salons, small offices, clinics, schools and holiday units near the Lowveld. Coastal humidity is not the main concern in our main service area, but the same principle applies in damp or dusty rooms where mould spots can appear on neglected filters and inside the indoor casing.

In Klerksdorp and parts of North West, dust from roads and open yards can load a filter fast. In Mbombela and the Lowveld, pollen and fine plant debris can build up during certain seasons. If the aircon is used daily, filter care should form part of the normal service cycle. For systems that run through load shedding changes and repeated restarts, clean airflow also helps the unit come back on without unnecessary stress.

Installation needs, power use and gas concerns

A washable filter set itself does not need electrical power or refrigerant gas. It is a passive component. That said, the indoor unit it sits in must still be installed correctly, with enough wall clearance, a level mount and proper drainage. If the aircon is installed too close to a curtain, bulkhead or ceiling detail, airflow can be affected even with a clean filter.

We handle new installations, replacement units, cassette fitment, portable setup and system commissioning in Mbombela, White River, Hazyview, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom and Rustenburg. Where needed, we also check refrigerant charge, coil condition and drainage, because a filter issue is sometimes only one part of a bigger airflow or cooling problem. If the unit is short on gas or the coil is dirty, a new filter will not fix that by itself. It will however help the system work as it should once the rest is sorted.

Care, cleaning and service intervals

A washable filter should be removed, rinsed and dried regularly. For most homes, that means every 2 to 4 weeks in dusty periods and every 1 to 2 months in lighter use. In shops, clinics or busy offices, cleaning may be needed more often. Never refit a wet filter because it can encourage smells and moisture build up inside the unit, and that can lead to extra cleaning later.

During scheduled servicing, we check the filter condition, indoor coil, fan drum and drain path. If the filter mesh has stretched, torn or gone brittle, it is better to replace it than keep washing it until it fails. A good filter frame should sit flat and not flex too much when removed. If you hear a buzzing panel or see dust slipping around the edge, the fit may be poor.

  • Wash in clean water and allow full drying
  • Do not use harsh solvents or stiff brushes
  • Check for cracks, warping or loose clips
  • Combine filter cleaning with general aircon servicing

What to check before you order

Before ordering, check the indoor unit model, the number of filters in the set and the visible size of each panel. If possible, measure the frame length and width in millimetres. Also check how the filter locks in, because some units use tabs, others use side runners and a few use a full cassette style mesh section. A wrong clip point can make the part useless even if the size looks close.

If the original filter is missing, bring a photo of the indoor unit front cover, the inside edge and the label plate. We can usually narrow it down quickly. For trade customers and site teams, it helps to note the room type, usage hours and whether the site has dust, cooking vapour or heavy foot traffic. That makes it easier to supply the right set first time, without delays or repeat trips. It save time and keeps the call-out simple.

What clients say

Questions we get asked

How often should a washable filter be cleaned?

For normal home use, every 2 to 4 weeks is common in dusty periods. Busy commercial sites may need weekly cleaning, while lighter use can go a bit longer.

Can I fit a washable filter set without calling a technician?

Yes, if you know the unit model and the filter slides out easily. If the cover is tight, the clips are broken or the filter sits in a cassette unit, it is safer to have it checked during service.

Will a new filter fix poor cooling on its own?

Not always. A blocked filter can cause weak airflow, but poor cooling may also come from dirty coils, low gas charge, drainage issues or a faulty fan. A proper fault check gives the right answer.
