Replacement Units

When an old system keeps tripping, leaking, or costing too much to run, a swap-out can make better sense than patching it up again. Aircon Warehouse supplies and installs replacement units in Mbombela, the Lowveld and North West, with trade pricing and proper commissioning.

When a swap-out is the better call

Replacement units are for systems that have reached the end of their useful life, or where the repair bill has become hard to justify. In Mbombela, White River, Hazyview, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom and Rustenburg, we often see units that struggle after years of dust, summer heat, coastal-style humidity in some areas, or hard use during load-shedding restarts.

If the compressor is weak, the indoor coil is badly corroded, the unit is undersized for the room, or parts are no longer practical to source, a like-for-like swap or an upgrade can save time and future callouts. We look at the full picture, not just the fault on the day, so you get a replacement that suits the room and the power supply.

  • Failed or ageing wall split units
  • Old cassettes with repeated gas loss or electrical faults
  • Portable units that no longer cool enough for the space
  • Systems that are too small, too noisy, or costly to run

What is included in a replacement unit job

A proper replacement is more than taking one machine off the wall and hanging up another. We check the existing pipework, drainage, isolator, mounting points and wiring first, then match the new equipment to the room size and use pattern. Where needed, we remove old equipment, adjust pipe runs, fit new trunking, and recommission the full system.

For shops, offices, salons and smaller industrial spaces, we can also advise on whether a wall split, cassette or portable unit is the better fit. The goal is simple: a unit that starts cleanly, cools properly and does not keep giving trouble after the first hot spell.

  • Site assessment and unit sizing
  • Safe removal of failed equipment
  • Reuse or replacement of copper pipework, cable and drainage where suitable
  • Vacuum testing, gas check and start-up
  • Basic user handover after commissioning

How the replacement process works

We keep the process direct so there is no guesswork for the client or the site team. After the assessment, we quote on the replacement option best suited to the room and the budget. Once approved, we schedule delivery and installation, then the team works through the changeover in order.

First we isolate the old system and remove it carefully. Then we inspect the existing infrastructure, make any required adjustments, install the new unit and pressure test the connections. After that the system is vacuumed, charged if needed, and run through a full test cycle. If the controls or drain setup need attention, that is handled on the day so the job is finished properly.

  • Step 1: Inspection and sizing
  • Step 2: Quote and approval
  • Step 3: Removal and prep work
  • Step 4: Installation and testing
  • Step 5: Commissioning and handover

Typical turnaround times and scheduling

Turnaround depends on stock, access and the complexity of the changeover. Simple wall split replacements can often be completed quickly once the equipment is on hand. Larger cassettes, ceiling work or jobs that need pipe rerouting take longer, especially where ceiling access is tight or the unit sits above a busy retail floor.

In Mbombela and the Lowveld we often plan around business hours and school runs, while in Klerksdorp and Rustenburg we can stage work to limit downtime for shops and offices. If a client needs same-week attention, we will say upfront what is realistic and what materials are required. That saves wasted trips and lost time.

For urgent failures, we can discuss temporary cooling options while the replacement is being arranged. That is especially useful when a reception area, server room or trading floor cannot be left without cooling for long.

Pricing approach for replacement units

Our pricing is based on the actual job, not a one-size-fits-all figure. The cost depends on the unit type, capacity, site access, pipe and cable condition, ceiling height, removal of old equipment, and whether extra mounting or electrical work is needed. Trade pricing is available on stock held through the warehouse, which helps keep the total cost practical.

We quote clearly on supply and installation, so you can see what is included before work starts. If the existing copper lines are usable, that reduces cost. If the old setup is undersized or corroded, replacing those parts now is often cheaper than fixing repeated faults later. We aim for fair pricing that makes sense over the next few summers, not just today.

  • Supply only or supply and install options
  • Quoted labour for removal and fitment
  • Extra materials shown separately if required
  • Preferred pricing on multiple units for larger sites

Maintenance intervals after a replacement

Once a new system is in place, maintenance keeps it efficient and extends service life. For homes, an annual service is usually enough unless the unit runs hard every day or sits in a dusty area. For offices, retail sites and clinics, service every 6 months is better. In hot inland conditions and where systems run through the day, filters and coils pick up dust faster than many owners expect.

A good maintenance routine includes filter cleaning, drain checks, gas pressure checks, electrical inspection and coil cleaning. If the system is in a kitchen, workshop or near traffic dust, the interval may need to be shorter. Regular servicing also helps spot slow leaks or fan issues before they turn into a full breakdown.

  • Homes: every 12 months
  • Busy commercial sites: every 6 months
  • Dusty or high-use areas: every 3 to 4 months
  • After heavy storm season or long shutdowns: inspect before peak use

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Can you replace only the indoor or outdoor unit?

In some cases yes, but we first check compatibility, refrigerant type, pipe condition and whether the remaining part is worth keeping. If not, a full replacement is usually the safer option.

Do you work on both homes and commercial sites?

Yes. We replace units in houses, flats, shops, offices and smaller industrial spaces, provided the access and load requirements are suitable for the site.

How do I know if repair or replacement is better?

If the system is old, uses repeated gas top-ups, has major electrical faults or keeps failing after repairs, replacement usually gives better value over time.
